A little History

It opened in 1941 as part of RAF Fighter Command's 12 Group. RAF Fighter Command was one of three functional commands of the Royal Air Force. It was formed in 1936 to allow more specialised control of fighter aircraft. It served throughout the Second World War. It earned great fame during the Battle of Britain, when the Few held off the Luftwaffe attack on Britain. The Command continued until 17 November 1943, when it was disbanded. The RAF fighter force was split into two categories; defence and attack. The defensive force became Air Defence Great Britain and the offensive force became the RAF Second Tactical Air Force. The Air Defence of Great Britain was later renamed Fighter Command. It was finally disbanded in 1968. In recent years, the site has been used for agricultural purposes under the terms of an agreement with the Welsh Government, the current site owners.

Released

Made some corrections so GroundTraffic works with XP12 (xp10/xp11) its not 100% but I have tested on a MAC and it works.

HangarOps still seems to work with XP12 so remember to download this free plugin if you wish to use the Hangars.

I will NOT be making any other changes to this scenery - If you wish to make any changes then please feel free.

Mr3D - the sea looks nice by the bay.....

I have very little custom scenery installed - but this is a permanent fixture.  I love it - thanks for all the effort it took to produce.

I do know this airfield personally.  I lived in North Wales for several years for work in the early '90s.  I carried out a level and condition survey of all the sea defences on the North Wales coast.  There is a benchmark (known level) on the end of the main runway.  The day I visited, the RAF were operating both Bae Hawks and target drones - the drones were flown out to sea and the Hawks used them as target practice.

I just went up to reception and asked if I could access the benchmark and was told on the spot I could - much to my surprise as the runway was active.  My assistant and I worked our way out to the runway, complete with surveying equipment, escorted by a very large fire tender.  When we got near the runway, the fire tender hung back.  We just kept going - as did a hawk doing circuits and bumps.  The hawk came over our heads and landed close enough for us to feel the downdraught from the wings and not just hear, but smell the tyre smoke.  A memorable experience!

This scenery brings back great memories of a memorable time in beautiful part of the world.

Fantastic contribution, thankyou! It's evident you've put a heck of a lot of work into this, as the detail everywhere really shows. The scenery is large enough to fly around and maintain the immersion. I love the expansive period naval presence in the harbour with an interactive carrier.

Great work, much appreciated.
